Elsie the 13-year-old Rottweiler was spotted by a neighbour on Polmuir Road, Plains Farm in Sunderland. She was lying motionless and curled in a ball in Anthony Christie and Kirsty Marie Henderson’s sewage-flooded garden on July 6. The neighbour threw over some chicken to Elsie that was too weak to take it. The neighbour then went over to the couples house and demanded to get the dog. The day after a RSPCA officer came to take her and she was immediately ‘put to sleep’ due to her immense suffering. The veterinarian found that Elsie had a lame right foreleg, an enlarged elbow and heavy green discharge from her eyes. She was emaciated and was suffering from skin disease and hair loss. Her weight was just 25 kilo-, at least 10 kilos less than a normal Rottweiler.Instead of taking the poor dog to the veterinarian, Anthony Christie decided to use Google and learn how to speed up the process of her death by feeding her paracetamol and chicken bones. So that shows how much he cared for (which he claimed to do) the sweet old dog he had since she was a puppy…. The couple was hauled to court and prosecuted but the incredible lame sentence they received is being banned from keeping dogs and cats for 10 years, six months’ supervision and a six-week tagged night-time curfew. They will have to pay £720 costs between them. Is that it? No prison? This is a couple who have let their dog suffer while continue living as usual with their 3 children under the age of 10. Day in and day out, just ignoring her pain.
Their dog who is supposed to be one in the family was dumped in the garden and they did nothing about it. How long could she have been lying there in the sewage if not spotted by their caring neighbour?
