An estimated 2,000 dogs are stolen and picked up each week in North Thailand where they are then transported to be slaughtered; mainly across the Thai border to Vietnam and China, where sales are more profitable. Dehydrated, stressed, dying of suffocation, broken bones, crushed eyes and horrible pain is what they endure on the trip, the dogs are often stacked 1,000 to a truck on a journey that lasts for days. A number of dogs are killed for their meat to be eaten while others are slaughtered for their skin.
Knowing man’s best friend is being killed for this purpose are very disturbing, the method and journey to their final destination makes it even more so. Any roaming dog is a target for individuals in the trade. There have been witness accounts of people on motorbikes that strike the dogs with a bat or catch the dog with a wire around its neck where they are then shoved into small cages in a waiting truck.
The existing laws in Thailand neither allow nor prohibit dog slaughter, and there is no animal welfare legislation in Thailand. There is only a clause in the Criminal Laws Article 381 stating “ a person committing an act of cruelty or killing an animal by mean which inducing unnecessary torment shall be sentenced to one month in jail or fined one thousand baht or both.” The term “cruelty”, however, is not defined, and no conviction has ever been made.
What happens at the dogs and cats destination? THIS is what happens, only watch if you are sure you can see and hear this cruelty. Be aware of that the dogs are being skinned alive and still move after… Remember the 10.000 dogs that will be slaughtered during the Yulin dog meat festival in China this weekend and the estimated 10.000.000 dogs murdered each year in China for their meat and fur…
